About the Jordan Dickerson Memorial Share the Music Foundation
Jordan was a self-taught guitarist and piano player and possessed an incredible ability to sing and perform locally. Unfortunately, Jordan battled addiction and lost his battle Christmas Eve, 2015. His love for music continued until his passing and this foundation’s purpose is to spread the Gift of Music to those without means to pay for an instrument or music lessons. We strive to keep the legacy of Jordan’s love for music, his incredible spirit, and his impact in the community alive.
About the foundation
Jordan Dickerson grew up next to me. His mother and I had become friends and she shared Jordan’s love for music at such an early age (I believe he was 4). The day I met Jordan, his mother cued him to sing a song for me. Without hesitation, and with a glimmer in his big blue eyes and a grin from ear to ear, he belted out a song. Throughout his life, Jordan taught himself to sing and play music. His love for the guitar and the piano made him a favorite at friends’ homes, beach parties and local hangouts. Jordan went out of his way to always help anyone who needed it, too, whether a member of his family, a friend or even strangers. His kind heart and caring ways left those in his path comforted and happy. His passion for music and for life preceded him wherever he went.
After Jordan’s sudden passing, I was troubled by how I could possibly ease some of the burden his family was going through. It took me almost 7 months before it hit me. Jordan needed a legacy and music would be a great way to do it. I reached out to Jordan’s mother, Marilyn, and shared my idea. With tears of joy, Marilyn was elated with the idea. Thus, the foundation was created. I partnered with the Gift of Music to be the conduit for our group to share instruments with kids who wanted to play but could not afford to purchase on their own.
